Redefining Keyword Research and Analysis the Dirty way

25 March 2009 3 Comments

Well, I coined it “the dirty way” because most parts don’t have to go with the standards and I got used to it already. And it works for me.

Every tutorial on the internet says the same thing in regards to search engine optimization topic. When I started learning SEO I had trouble visualizing text tutorials so I made one myself. Consider this the elementary crash course.

Let’s divide this into two topics. First, we discuss keyword research and analysis under the long tail market (example: blogs that have a different topics or niches).

I’m assuming that the reader has a basic knowledge with on-page and off-page optimization.  The typical routine that I used to research, analyze or you might want to include the term *”hijack”some keywords are as follows:

  1. Top Posts -Most bloggers have top posts in their blog. This is where we usually take a peek on what their trophy keywords are. Most likely some clever bloggers don’t include their top posts to keep their trophy keywords away from prying eyes.
  2. User Online - It’s a plugin or widget that tracks who or how many are reading or visiting the blog. In there, you could check the user stats basing on what they are reading or articles that interests them. By then, you could analyze and figure out what keywords they most likely search for.
  3. MVTracker Public Stats - With the help of Google’s search commands we could indulge ourselves on prying for more than 300 public stat results, analyze user search behaviours and optimize them. Just type in allinurl:www.mvtracker.com/stats.php? and click repeat the search with omitted results included. After you clicked the link, the user search queries are on the bottom part of the stat results.
  4. MapStats - Google’s search commands always comes in handy when doing keyword research. By typing inurl:breakdown-search-year.html and clicking repeat the search with omitted results included, 300+ results for the last 365 days are being spewed by the SERPs for you to analyze and optimize possible high searched volume keywords.

From tips 3 and 4, most of you should be busy doing your homework for 2weeks with keyword research. The search command and link used for searching possible trophy keywords were being shared by some of my friends in our seo community for the past months. *Hijack - term used doesn’t reflect black hat techniques but rather initiative and effort to do some research. Most new found search techniques were being released after they were heavily-used during the time it has been discovered.

Not all seo tactics are compatible with this method especially with companies with a niche. Instinct, patience and innovation comes at best when doing a different strategy when doing search engine marketing for a typical service.
