Check Engine Light code retrieval

So you were driving your car and suddenly the starts to glow.
What is this? What to do? Well i'm here to help.
The CEL (Check Engine Light) turns on to inform you that something with the
transmission or engine is not functioning properly.

To check the code on the Accord and most OBDI and OBDII Hondas just follow these simple steps.
*Note* It has come to my attention that some 96 Accords have a service connector behind the ashtray.

1. Open passenger door.

2. Look underneath glove compartment area.

3. Look for a plastic piece that has plugs in it.
Note: The blue plastic has either one (OBDII) or two (OBDI) plugs I BELIEVE.
From what I know, OBDI has the TCM(trans) and ECM(engine) separate.
OBDII has them combined.

4. Grab the plug with TWO wires, which is the ECM plug.

5. Stick something metal into the plug connect the two wires.
I used a quick disconnect used in electronics.

6. Turn the key in the ignition to the II position.

7. The CEL should start blinking, this is the code.
The code is done with long and short blinks.
A long blink adds ten, while a short blink adds one.
Three long + five short = 35, easy.
Note: In my experiences, if it is a transmission problem on an automatic transmission,
the D4 on the dash will blink.

Oh, and before you go, this indicator, when it changes from green

just tells you that you have driven 6k miles since it was last reset.
Basically it is a wake-up call for you to make sure everything is OK.
Just stick your key in the hole near it to reset.
